27 Dec 2006

Highway concessionaire Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd or Litrak has joined the list of sponsors for the New Straits Times¡¯ School Sponsorship Programme.

The new academic session will see another six schools benefiting from the company¡¯s contribution of RM9,480.

The sponsorship is expected to help improve the standard of English among 240 pupils from the schools.

The beneficiaries are SK Sungai Penchala, SK Bandar Sunway, SRK Puchong, SMK Batu 8 Puchong, SK Puchong Jaya and SR Tamil Castlefield.

” general, the standard of English has drastically improved since the sponsorship programme made its debut last year,” said Litrak chief executive officer Sazally Saidi.

Sazally, representing Litrak at a mock cheque presentation at Balai Berita yesterday, said the company decided to participate in the programme as it was a noble cause.

Litrak chose the schools as they were located along the highway. Each school will receive 10 copies of the NST daily for a year.

The programme is aimed at promoting the usage of newspapers as a teaching tool and improving the level of English among pupils.

Hundreds of companies have come forward since the programme was launched by Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein in August last year.
